Does that mean Alembic will never make me an alder bodied P-bass with a maple neck & fretboard and no inlays and a flat black paintjob?

If it didn't have to be bolt on, they just might - I don't work for them, and I don't think I've ever heard of them using Alder, so that might be a sticking point, but who knows. They've made the most beautiful Jazz basses I've ever seen.

Actually if you read my original post it was pretty damn close to what i said. And if by "arrogant" you mean defending myself against a few jerks who decided to post then yes, i am arrogant.

They may have meant that a specific model was no longer being built. Alembic does on ocassion discontinue models (Elan, Distillate, & Spoiler come to mind). But the funny thing about Alembic.....If you ask them to build you a discontinued model, they will.

Even if you don't like the body shape, what about the beautiful woodworking Alembic does? Don't you love looking at those yummy cocobolo tops?:eek:

This sort of thing goes on all the time here, people not liking a certain headstock, the body is ugly, etc. But if you dismiss a bass simply because of how it looks you may be missing out on a great instrument. (end of lecture)

I have two Alembics and a Bongo, so I guess I get double the fun.;)

As far as I'm concerned, people can love 'em or hate 'em as much as they want. Won't change my opinion. I will admit that some of the Bongo discussions were humorous at first, but how many toilet seat jokes can you hear before it's no longer original?

There are a number of brands that I don't particularly care for, whether it be the way they look or the way they sound. It's not important enough to me to broadcast that to the world.

Aesthetically speaking, there are some Alembics that I really like and a few I don't particularly care for. I can say the same for other brands that I like, such as Ken Smith, Lakland, MTD, Roscoe, Hanewinckel. I really like all those brands, just not necessarily everything they make.

Years ago, I was a Stanley Clarke freak. I just couldn't get enough of his sound. I was lucky enough to get an Alembic Distilate in some sort of tigerwood. It was gorgeous, and had the sound too.
Unfortunately I needed money at some point and sold it for maybe $1000 or something.....:hiding:

I wish I still had it now, even though I'm not a Stanley nut anymore.:hmm:

Nah, the one I played was at The Low End. It was an older, I believe a '77 Model. Perhaps there's a huge difference in modern Alembics, or maybe the one I touched was faulty somehow, but the electronics just sounded BAD to me.

I've seen that one posted a couple times. Did you play it through the 5-pin cable and the DS-5 box or straight 1/4" cable to amp / preamp? On the older basses if you play through the 1/4" jack, you only get one pickup functioning. That's the trade-off of playing a bass wired for stereo through a mono connection.
