Alembic's

i dont want to catch alot of crap for this, but maybe it is inherent with what im about to say, but does anyone else ( from a purely athesetic standpoint) hate Alembic's?
im sure they play really nicely, but they just dont do it for me

Many people don't like the traditional, somewhat gothic shapes from the 70s, but there's a lot more. Besides the possibility of going completely custom (like a very cool reverse T-bird shaped example or some Jazzbasses they made), they offer a broad variety of body shapes nowadays. Most people who say they don't like the looks of Alembics probably aren't aware of this. See:[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

"I hate Alembics" (if that is what you mean, and not "I hate something belonging to Alembic", which is what you said) is an interesting statement. You're not the first poster here to say it. Like the above poster said, there are many standard body styles. Combine with that the fact that Alembic will make an instrument in any shape, scale length, an neck dimensions. The only things that you won't get on an Alembic are a bolt on neck and the "same old" off the shelf electronics that everybody else uses. Anything else is up to your imagination. So you hate your imagination. Cool.

What are you meaning by hating Alembics based on aesthetics? This isn't grammar, We just don't have the faintest idea what that means. So, you are going to get a pretty wide range of responses.

Have you played one? Which model(s)? What do you know about them and their pedigree? Is your issue visual from pics or based on any experience?

I can think of several styles of basses that don't do anything for me: singlecuts; 7 or more strings; short scale basses; older Gibsons (except Thunderbirds); doubleneck basses. I just don't see much point in raining on somebody's parade.

I was simply asking if anyone felt the same about Alembics. If you feel that strongly about them, its simple; dont post. people on this forum do the same thing about Music Man Bongos and other basses but the posters dont get called scumbags.

I think their basses are superb, both visually and soundwise, I don't see the point really, in making the statement that you hate them.

I personally think that Fender basses look boring, but you don't get me posting that do you, oops now look what I've done.

No seriously Alembic basses are cool, I'm not a fan of some the stranger designs, with all the omega cutouts and that, but the Stanley Clarke, Mark King and series basses are beautiful to look at .

I understand what you are talking about. I think the reason you are getting so much heat is your post was less than tactful. Plus you are in a small minority compared to the 50/50 percent of the Bongo debate.

The person who called you a scumbag is simply some noob who hasn't read the rules and should be ignored. He was out of line. We really don't see too much of that here.

Alembic, I'm not a huge fan of the style, but they sure are beautiful instruments to me. I love the woods more than I like some of the body and headstock styles. When I hear "Alembic" I automatically think of the Series 1 (I think) or the Stanley Clarke model. It's very unique in a cool way.

I think some of even the real high dollar Alembics are ugly..., and they're custom ordered. That means that they are someone's cup of tea (someone likes them). However, I've seen some Alembics that are unbelievably beautiful even if they don't fit my exact taste. I can say the same of several other makers but it doesn't make me hate thier instruments. :bassist:

You've obviously never seen one in person. I have yet to see a pic that does alembics justice. Also a couple of the designes are genuinely strange but most are awesome.
