He definitely plays like someone from my generation. Funny enough, when I finally saw the band on the Arsenio Hall Show, I really felt old. It was like nothing had changed from 1992. The band's grooves were great, but they sounded dated. I could not help but think of the bassist for the Roots playing really hip Neo-Soul finger style lines that really reflect where the current generation of soul/R&B/funk players are.
For the first time in my life, a guy really jamming on slap/pop groove made me feel old.
