I suck, but nobody really notices
So, a little while ago, someone had made a thread about having a dealer on Ali Express build him a custom bass. I hit him up immediately about it, and started mine.

Here is the Alibaba, $429 (shipping included), fully custom, ErnieJazzenBacker.

Here is what I sent him

Veneer has been stained, and attached. And, it looks like the back has been sanded for finish as well. Me, I would've done the black on the back first, before applying the veneer. But, maybe he thought it'd be better to do it this way. I guess it be easier to hide the seam hitting that with the veneer stained and in place. I don't know.

Also looks like someone's iceman bass is right next to mine, being glued together.

So far, my report on the builder is

He's nice, good communication, and it's been a great experience working with him so far.

This project, among all the others that started at the same time, has been delayed due to covid at the factory, and then the holidays. But, they are back at work, and I'm hoping things keep going smooth. If there's any problems, he'll let me know.

I'm going to have to find that other thread. I think I remember it.

Did you send parts and/or hardware to use or just the specifications and images? Would I have to have a full draft made up? Hope it plays as nice as it looks when it gets to you!
Just specs and references. He didn't ask me for references, I just thought it'd be easier for him if I showed him, rather than trying to simply explain things. He asked about hardware, woods, and such, and we came to an agreement about it. He's real easy to work with.

Likewise.
Also wondering if they'd do a custom partial build... they do millwork and maybe fretwork, I do the final sand, finish work, tiny holes for hardware etc and the rest and source my own hardware?

Being a lefty and a hobbyist, being able to pay someone to do only the stuff Im not equipped for would open up real opportunities.

Proper LH kits I want to build have got rare since Gibson got all lawery.

Most likely. I told him not to worry about pickups. Seeing as how I'd just replace them anyway.
