Stay away from anyone/anything that sells counterfeits. Even though that thing doesn't say Fender or Rickenbacker on it, they sell counterfeits all day long, and I'll never give them any business. Also, you get what you pay for, and most often, people receive horrible instruments that need a lot of work to become playable.
It's an interesting point. Who is to blame about the counterfeits? They only make them because someone buys them... don't buy them!
I think buying their non-counterfeit instruments and actively asking for non-brand logos is a more direct positive way to direct their business. But that's just me. If you just don't buy... they will never notice you. If, by contrast, people buy but they clearly avoid their fakes... maybe they direct their attention more there. I don't know. You have to look at and identify individual sellers... a lot of them are mere resellers.
Horrible instruments and lot of work? Depends on your definition of what constitutes a lot of work. A guy sold me his OLP years ago and I was giving him his asking price... but HE dropped the price as it had such horrible high action. It turns out some people cannot work out how and when to use a truss rod and they feel levelling frets is a hard/expensive job. A lot of people just buy with their eyes expecting an instrument that is normally $2000 even when they pay $200. And then they are disappointed. Ha!
There's lots of success stories on youtube too. There's that guy who seems to constantly buy fake Yngwie Malmsteen Strats... you cannot argue they are terrible instruments those (although I don't support buying a fake, this is just to illustrate a point about the quality).
You generally get what you pay for, that is true 'though... so be realistic before spending money. If you want a cheap jazz bass that looks and plays amazing straight from the box... don't go aliexpress, buy a Sire, or even a SX from Rondo.
