I wanted to be a Beatle so bad we formed a band and I have never looked back. I was only a singer but as soon as I earned enough money I bought my 1st violin bass. Wish I still had it. The neck was a 2x4! I was a paper boy and bought every new 45 as soon as they were released. Awesome time to be young!

I'd read that famous wuote many times, but this is the first time I'd read of Mimi immortalizing her ironic words on a plaque on John's guitar!

I wonder if Dick Rowe at Decca Records ever hung a framed quotation in his office saying, "Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr. Epstein!"

Far out, zontar! I was shocked in the "Ding Ding, Ding Dong" video to see the Fender Solid State amp on the far left of many scenes! The Beatles rooftop concert famously featured their new Fender silverfaced all-tube amps, but I never saw much love for the Solid State amps.

And the video was quite interesting, though the narration was so monotonous. I just had to grab this shot from it. "When you're badass enough to have Clapton for a sideman and you front The Prince's Trust band with a Squier!"

Yes, zonty, good point! It's always amazed me, but Ringo does apparently play some guitar and, I believe, piano! Musta rubbed off from the others. I'm always surprised to read that John or George (dunno 'bout tightfisred Paul) giving Ringo a guitar here and there! For that matter, I don't even think of George playing piano or organ, but he did! Maybe under the heading of: "Strange, but True"

I read somewhere that the guys taught Ringo 3 or 4 chords on guitar and that George (especially) spent a lot of time working on the chords to use on one of Ringo songs. I just can’t remember whether it was Don’t Pass Me By or Octopus’ Garden. Again on Photograph George worked on it and gave Ringo a writing credit - I guess we will never know if it was really a Harrisong or if Ringo ‘deserved’ a 50% credit. Not for me to judge anyway.
I love the song though, it was very moving when Ringo sang it at ‘Concert for George’.

I remember being really amazed that Ringo was gifted guitars by John and George and by Marc Bolan. What a great collection, until the auction.

I would certainly think George spent the most time on Octopus's Garden over Don't Pass Me By. The lead guitar on OG just really makes the fun, surreal vibe. I recently heard an alternate version with a much less spectacular lead that George obviously scrapped for a total rewrite. DPMB always struck me as much more traditional Appalachian music. (That's Jack Fallon playing the "fiddle-style" violin.)

George was always a staunch Ringo supporter. George got a black eye defending Ringo from Pete Best fans at their first gig at The Cavern Club after the drummers' switch.

There's actually a video clip of George and Ringo at a piano at Abbey Road, and George is making suggestions about the changes in "Octopus' Garden." John is sitting at the drums at the other end of the room, just messing around.
The really interesting part of the video comes when Paul arrives, and you can feel a slight chill fall over the room. (The adult has entered the room.)

I just googled the lyrics and chords for both Ringo songs.

DPMB is only G C & D which seems to me to be chords that a guitar novice (I am one !) would choose and stick with when trying to write a song.
Octopus, nup. Trickier guitar chords in that. B & C#m are included. The George touch.

I’m reading Dirty Deeds the Mark Evans autobiography.
At one time George visits the shop that Mark has an interest in to check out some vintage guitars.
The verdict was that George is just a lovely guy. During conversation John was referred to as a great guy but has his moments. Ringo was referred to as Richie. Paul was referred to as ‘the bass player’ lol.

Classic Beatles concert, at peak performance, doing some of their big hits of the time, before the touring chaos and stadium madness. Uncharacteristically quiet audience, though! Clearly they could hear themselves well and sing & play accordingly. Strange, though, how Paul's bass amp was now being dwarfed by the guitar amps. Anybody else ever wonder why John never came up with a totally solo song to counter Paul's "Yesterday"? Things that make you go, "hmmm" . . . .
