Alleva Coppolo mics and pre alternatives

Hi, i'm gonna make me build with my luthier here in Argentina a 5string jazz bass like the AC LG5 models.

It's gonna be ash body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard. I really like the tone of the LG5 models and i reaaaally like this tone: Interview with Travis Carlton at the Baked Potato, May 26th 2010 Part1 - YouTube
at 2:29 starts playing.

I'm looking that kind of fingerstyle and slap sound.

Sooo, long story short, what pickups and preamp do you recommend?

My dad is going to USA in June so i will buy this stuff there.

pretty much any single coils. most of the pres.

Only other problem i see is that you are choosing woods DIFFERENT than an LG. if u want a nice slap tone.. Then ur in the right track, but if somewhere you heard an LG5, ash and maple wont sound like an LG. regardless of what pre and pickups you choose.

Hola mike, como estas? You are one of the persons why i really like the tone of the lg5 ;).
it's gonna be ash/rosewood, like the xotic in the video that i post ed. It's a very similar sound to your sound with the lg5. That's what my ears hear haha.

It'll sound close enough. I've played ash/maple Fenders, I've played alder/rosewood Fenders. The pickups you use make a million times more difference than those woods. Wood does matter to a certain extent, but with densities that close to each other, six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Now you want to compare ash to something like basswood, then maybe you've got something.

I can def see that happening.

Now in my limited experience.. (being im an AC player) the ash/maple 70s vs. alder/rosewood 60s are two completely different beasts.

My LM didnt get no love from me.. As much as i wish i could say they sounded similar... They didnt..

I believe he uses the same pre and pups on his builds, so that just leaves the woods. Just my .02
