I like the sound and feel of ancient vintage fender basses. So that is why i play Allevas.. No other comes close in that respect. I also have a few Sadowsky basses for when i want a more modern tone.. Between those i really dont been anything except my vintage fenders.. HA
But to replace an Alleva Coppolo is allot cheaper than replacing a 65 jazz bass if it get yanked or falls....
But to be fair, anything can work for you.. It depends on what you like ..
I might add, something that i have noticed is the resale value of Allevas stay waaaay up there... I see some selling for more used in some markets after only a couple of years...
An Alleva i sold a couple of years ago for $4500.. it just sold once again for more a grand over that,,,. .Its more than i paid new! Plus i like the way they play and sound.. So you put the Poll up there. I voted Alleva Coppolo.
I must add, I also have a few fender RW basses that have Alleva Pickups.. Holy cow, they are great too!

I found this to be absolutely true!

I wanted a more modern JJ sound and had a Sadowsky (great bass!) but replaced it with a Regenerate, which I prefer.

The Regenerate has Nordstrand pickups and a nice preamp - almost too much tonal flexibility and it looks amazing. It is set up quite low and plays like a dream. The neck is soooo easy!

YMMV, but I have found a keeper!

I've owned both basses and they are great basses. Currently, I'm playing two LEJ24's....JJ & PJ. LowEnd was my first custom bass and after owning other customs, I went back to the LEJ's for my personal taste. That's why it's important to get what works for you. Like a previous poster mentioned, after owning an AC, just like them, I believe the new Fenders sound just as nice, since they are bass off the same tone...the fender sound. I really did my own comparison too. But, if I found another AC at a great price, yeah I would buy it. My reason, I'm big on feel in hands and the AC's and LE's are some of the best feeling basses I've played. I love the fender tone, but feel isn't as consistent and the other basses.

If you are looking at an LM5 I'd also look at a Sadowsky UV70. I've never played an LEJ.

I know it's not a popular belief but I think Frender has stepped up it's game the new American Deluxe 5s I've played are pretty darn nice. I once waited 18 months and spent $4500 on an LM5. If I wanted that 70s style again I'd likely hit the local guitar stores and find an ash/maple Fender for $1800 and swap out the pickups and preamp.

So many good choices, with small but important differences. Ya gotta play 'em to know which is right for you. Personally, I had a chance to try two A-C's at a friend's house, and didn't feel any magic. All of the other usual suspects are great, and of ones I've played, that Xotic deserves real scrutiny - if I could hang with the full-sized j-body, I'd own one.

I came to this a loooong time ago, I have 3 basses a 74 or 75 Jazz bass ( The serial #'s mean absolutely nothing when it gets to the 70's basses )
a Marcus Miller V ( got it cheap ) and a 72 P bass that needs work but it proably won't get it anytime soon....... because the 3 to 4 notes I play on it a couple nights a week does suffice ......Oh well, The mortgage is do. :hmm:

I tend to agree. A "boutique" jazz is great if you've owned a really nice fender. Understand the wood combinations you prefer and maybe aren't satisfied with the 5 string version fender makes or the pickup/preamp options. Or maybe you've owned or played a pre-CBS but don't want to spend that kind of money.

When you are approaching it from those angles the cost, customization and wait time makes more sense.

Alleva Coppolo is hosting a Bass Show in LA next week April 5th which is his 4th Annual BASSACRE. .. Nordstrand will be there as well at Ken Smith, Rob Allen, MTD, LaBella, REDDI A-Design, Ampeg and more. And guests like Bobby Vega , Chuck Rainey, Juan Allderette. Norm Stockton.. He does the show each year.. This one will be great.. His list of clinics has grown the past few weeks I'd see his site for up to date info at www.allevacoppolo.com

As Always there will be give Aways going on throughout the day.. including a one of a kind Alleva Coppolo Bass...
