Allparts Rickenbacker style bridge question

Hi all, I recently bought a 4001 Ric and it did not have the original bridge. I bought the Allparts Ricenbacker style bridge to make it look more correct. While I don't plan to use the mute pad I think that since it is a new bridge it should at least function properly. My understanding is the two thumb screws on the sides raise and lower it. On mine the thumb screws won't budge. They are stuck in the low position so I can probably use it but again it is a new bridge and thus should work properly. Has anybody that used the allparts bridge experience the same thing or am I wrong on how this works?

Take it off of the bass and take it apart and put it back together and make the screw work ...

I thought about trying that but if the manufacturer cross threaded the screws I don't want them to blame me for forcing it apart and then not being able to return it if necessary. Now if and when I contact the seller to see if I can do that and they say give it a try then I will.
I'll probably call either allparts or the seller tomorrow and see what they say.

You can put in a real Rickenbacker mechanical mute

I solved the problem. I went ahead and put a pair of pliers on the nut on the bottom of the mute pad and broke loose both of the thumb screws. I guess when the nut and the metal bar the mute pad is attached to which is also threaded come up against each other and get tightened they make it hard to loosen them again. And they just needed some encouragement. even now when I try to lower the mute pad where it comes into contact with the nut on the thumb screw it becomes a little difficult to raise it again. I am also guessing the nut is there so the user doesn't accidentally turn the thumb screw so far that the mute pad bar comes off.
