Alpha Omega Amp vs Pedals

Hi all!

I'm a relatively new bassist looking to buy my first amp/preamp. I've been playing with some free plugins through my interface and I'd like to upgrade to some hardware pedals as my computer isn't viable for gigging.

I love the sound of the Darkglass Alpha Omega 900 amp. If money was unlimited I'd buy it today. However, I plan to go straight to front of house instead of micing a cab. So couldn't i achieve the same sound with the Hyper Luminal compressor and Alpha Omega Ultra preamp pedal and save a little money? Or is the compressor sound in the amp not replacable with the hyper luminal? Is there something else I'm missing?

As far as I've understood it, the Hyper Luminal has a BUS mode that should give you a compression that's tonally similar to what's built into the amps. Even if that's not correct, the pedal comp offers a lot more versatility than the in-built comp, so it could definitely be a smart investment regardless of similarity. It's a good compressor pedal.

Tonally there shouldn't be a whole lot of difference between the Alpha Omega pedal and amp, so if you're on a budget I don't think you'll end up disappointed with 'just' the two pedals!
