Thanks @jerry for this post. It is memorizing as it is my first viewing of a concert performance for the Mysterious Traveler release (my 1st WR LP BTW). To see and hear Acuna and Chester Thompson with Alfonso Johnson. Killer. Very cool. Txs.

Mysterious Traveler is my first Weather Report album as well, it is still at the top of the playlist I want playing when I leave this mortal coil.

I do know for a fact that for the audition Jaco was in an isolation booth and Z'ul was unable to see him playing. After Jaco finished Z'ul said something to the effect of "That was cool. But does he play bass?"

Before Erskine was brought in, Alex Acuna was promoted from percussionist to drummer (and Manolo Badrena was brought in as percussionist). Erskine wasn’t brought in until the next album after Heavy Weather.

My understanding was Jaco knew Peter from Maynard's band and recommended him to Z'ul.
