Yeah, I think the hardest parts are done on these two projects.
Now I just gotta "ride 'em both out"
I have bigger fish, set up soon.
I found a friend of mine runs a tree service, he has offered me quite a few logs of dark walnut,maple and ash ( he said that he's, run into some red oak also.), so I'm in the midst of putting a collection together of woods that are indigenous to the state of Maryland and that I'll have milled and dried myself . I know where to have it milled, but I must study the drying process. Other than that , I will finally have a supply of nice wood that will cost me significantly less than I could buy it for. I'm dying to build a bass!
I have a suggestion for the PVC bass case.
How about a bigger diameter PVC pipe cut in halves, close the ends, put some hinges and a handle and some cushion inside?

I used to use PVC for a bow quiver for my upright: just a PVC pipe large enough to fit the bow, with the ends capped. One end glued into place. That could work for this...

I just saw a band where the bassist built his own PVC EUB so I had to pop it into the SEARCH function to see if anyone else had tried it.
It looked a lot like yours and sounded great on some country-rockish tunes the band did.

Ok, here's the latest.
My uncles one is finished. He just went with the plain ole' pvc exterior. I ditched the big design for one of my own, the mini, which is playable, and I will get some pics + clips of both my uncles and mine, as soon as I get to going over to his house, pick them up so that I can do so.

i have a few piezo pickups-i've never bothered to buy any,
though.($2-$3 is steep
)
most of mine come from fax machines , domestic phones ,
kids toys from crappy meals , etc...
you can take your dremel tool and cut them into pieces if
they won't fit where you want to put'em,as long as you can
get away with soldering to both sides . some have the leads
apparently spot-welded , and i've been unable to resolder to,
but many have sufficient plating to attach to.
i never bothered with preamps or such , just a shunt cap and
trimpot to keep them from squealing.
i like the way they sound , acoustic-like , with lots of string and body/bridge noise .
all it takes is a hammer and some obsolete - pre-cellphone - crap.
