I have a Yamaha TRBX 305. It has two humbucking pickups with an active pre-amp. 4 knobs total, volume, blend, bass, and treble. It also has a 5 way strat style switch to change the mid range frequency curve.
I really prefer passive basses. I thought about trying to sell it to buy a passive bass, but I really can't get a lot out of it and I do like the bass a lot.
I was thinking disconnecting the pickups and removing all the electronics. I have to look but I assume the pickups are four conductor. I haven't been able to find anything about the wiring from Yamaha.
I would like to each pickup to a push-pull pot for series/parallel connection, and then wire a volume and a tone for each. I would fill the five position switch space with a telecaster style 3 position switch.
As far as I can tell what I basically want is Les Paul style wiring with added series/parallel for each pickup. I would use a telecaster 3 way switch instead of the Les Paul style switch.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for something like this? Also, what value of capacitor would be best for the two tone knobs? I would prefer to use a different value on each so that I could get a wider range of possible sounds. Finally, what value of pots would be best for something like this?
Thanks for the help.
