I used Elixir Coated bass strings since the day they apar on the market for the first time. I was amazed how long they last compared to the others.
I found them nice sounding to, although they would not be my first choice for important studio recording.
Nevertheless, considering their life duration which is certainly longer than 6 months in my case (regardless of use), they become my number one choice of bass strings.
Over the time, I changed from 45-105 to 40-100 (40-95) gauges for ease and comfort of playing.
Then Covid happened!
Unable to find Elixir Coated Bass Strings 40-100 (95) gauges anywhere on the market in Europe for the last almost two years, I looked for an alternative.
This is what I ended up with: Richter Strings 40-60-75-95 Electric Bass / made in Germany / ION Coated - Nickel plated - High Carbon - Hexagonal - Steel core
Elixir price - €47
Ritcher price - €27
First impressions:
Feel
Under fingers Ritcher feel different than Elixir. While Elixir feels like other non coated strings, Ritcher feel somehow different, reminds me on DR Neon Pink I tried some years ago, maybe a bit sticky. You can feel something on them that is not characteristic of uncoated strings, but that does not make them unplayable, just a bit different.
Sound
The sound is also different than Elixir strings. When putting it on and in the first few days, the sound is perhaps even better than Elixir.
While Elixir is extremely bright in the first few days (weeks), Ritcher does not have that excessive brightness at the start.
After 5 days (today) I can hear that G string maybe changed sound a bit and is different than the others, but I'll see in a couple of weeks and months...
Today I'll record an audio-video, and then wait until they change the sound completely and make another one for comparison for my YouTube channel.
Hope that will happen a way in the future
