Had to share this with you guys b/c I am psyched that it actually worked!
Wrap the coils with Teflon Plumbing tape!! I am sure lots of you have done this but when I searched I never found a concise post so i thought I'd put this up.
Back story.. (sorry!)
I bought a Squier Jazz V as a backup about a month ago that turned out to have a microphonic pickup. I installed a MIM Jazz V pup and a week later inadvertently damaged the coils while adjusting it. After finding a post here about removing the cover for the Squier pup (They glue it to the plastic around the top of the pole pieces, ***!~!) with only minor damage to the cover I carefully removed the black paper tape covering the coil (WHY DID'NT THE FENDER COIL HAVE THIS PROTECTIVE TAPE!?!?!?) Anyway, as earlier stated I wrapped the coil tightly with about 3 layer of teflon plumbers tape. I connected it using the leads I cut from the MIM pup and tested it. Unbelievable, no squeal with the PUP soloed and held so close to the speaker it was almost touching it!
Now I know this is a super cheap and unorthodox method (ALL AROUND, LOL!) but that was my goal, for now at least so I am happy with the results
