I think Vince Giordano's alloy is an AlCoA, I didn't see any of Pfretzschner's tell-tale rivets/screws in the video with that link.

I've always wanted an AlCoA, now that I've just hooked up with a Dobro player for some swamp blues and ragtime etc, it's imperative I get one!

Not that you can't, I just don't have the gig to use it on. Pretty much play electric out. With the right pickup and amplification this bass would Rock the House! I am going to try a blade pickup (on the bridge) that I have and see how that sounds, never know... maybe another video.

I have Supernils on mine and I use a pair of AT 2021's ... One at the fingerboard and one at the bottom of the treble F hole... I mount them with the "H" clamp set up you can get from Bob Gollihur... I gig mine as often as I can...

I have more trouble with Feedback with my Dobro Resophonic bass...

as far as the sound goes... I call it my fully chromatic washtub bass.,..

A buddy of mine from France found an Alcoa on ebay...local pickup in Nashville...the bass actually belonged to Roy Huskey Jr., which was my friends main interest...that and he's a collector of vintage American upright basses. His hope was that I'd take it on tour with me and figure out how to drop it off to him in Paris. There's just no way I could play that bass in my main band, so I told him to make arrangements and I'd ship it to him. That was like a year and a half ago and the bass is still sitting in a corner of a room in my house! I never paid much attention to it since it isn't mine...the fingerboard is also aluminum and the body and fingerboard were painted to look like wood...it looks and sounds awful

I keep thinking maybe I'll drag it into the studio one day to see if I can get some cool, weird sounds out of it...maybe I should...

FYI: I live at the shore & there's an excellent "contemporary rock" band that plays at a bar right on the beach-the bassist/vocalist has an aluminum bass hooked up to a pedal board w/ a synth, wah, & other electronics/pedals, etc.
He even has an EQ & some other electronics attached to his silver aluminum bass.
They play right in the sun-no cover-no shirts!
They're quite loud & his bass sounds great! Last summer he had spirocores & now corelli's.
Has a PU similar to the Bieselle-high volume (no feedback!)
(they play 5-6 X weekly there & at other regular venues)
I walked by (wet bathing suit!) & ended up sitting in to some high energy song-wish I owned that bass!!!!!!!

That bass don't sound too bad. With the right strings, that could be okay.
