Am I an ok Bassist...?

Join the school jazz band, if you have one.

Get some lessons.

Try playing other instruments.

Also, once you have employment, save up and get some rad gear. I know I wish I would have done that rather than partying all my money away. When I think about it, I spent way too much money on girls. In the wise words of Snoop Dogg, "I treat a B like 7-up. Never have, never will." Seriously, now is the time to save for awesome gear, before you don't have a disposable income and are a poor college student.

Great advice so far. I can only say this... stay with it and continue to progress.

I played when I was 14-15, was getting pretty good and then I sold my bass to pay for something else I wanted at the time (I don't even recall what it was), and then eventually bounced around to guitar and drums. I'm 24 now and I just bought my first bass since then. I'm just thinking a little now about how good I could have gotten had i not taken 8 years off, and also how many opportunities I would have had in college to really rip with some good musicians.
