I'm pulling your leg to an extent.
I think it's pretty ingracious of you to refuse the offer your friend made because it wouldn't be good enough for your sensitive ears.

Thats downright disgraceful. If you can't get your stuff in line to put some money aside to buy CD's, do without. I bet you can't afford a car, but you don't go out and steal one of those, do you?
Does it help if I can afford a car, but choose to carjack anyway?
Beggars can't be choosers.I was talking to a friend of mine online just a moment ago, and I mentioned he needed to borrow me some CDs at some point (he has a lot of heavier metal that I want to try listening to). He mentions he'll upload it, and I basically say I want to borrow the original CD since mp3 is crap and I'd prefer to encode it myself.
He claims there's no difference between mp3 and lossless because mp3 only removes frequencies the human ear can't hear. I'm bored at work and end up ranting to him about the differences in audio and audio compression and the problems I have with mp3. I wasn't trying to be anal, I was just bored at work and talking. I admit I probably AM anal about a/v, but I like to think I have high standards that I like to uphold. I'm not anal in general. I just have high standards about the things I indulge in and am happy to talk about it. Especially considered this guy is a friend, I wouldn't have thought he'd have a problem accepting that I just wanted to talk about it... but he seems to think I went out of my way to make him look stupid and correct what he said that was wrong.
But it's OK to make judgements on him and post them on a message board? He then goes to compare me to someone he used to know who was "anal" and happens to mention he didn't have a girlfriend for the three years he knew him. Umm, I admit to being a social dufus, but even if I am "anal", surely making judgements about someone like that is just as bad.
Are you loyal to ideas, or people? Is your presonal pride more important than preserving other's pride?I wouldn't say I'm anal. I would say I'm a proud and loyal person in general, and this relates to the things I am passionate about as well.
So the guy that you asked a favor from has to conform to the way you operate?I admit I just ranted at him, but as a friend I'm a bit annoyed he felt that I needed to be subtle with him (if I'm friends with someone, I give it to them straight; if it's someone I don't really know that well and I happen to talk about things I'm passionate about, I'll be more subtle...). I haven't actually known this guy for that long, so I guess he doesn't understand how I operate; but if he's not going to accept me for how I am, I don't have time to care.
Just leave him be. All friendships require space, and the freedom to disagree or be wrong. We all have different opinions, needs, and viewpoints. If you can't accept that, then you have some control issues.I've also had to ring this guy up a couple of times to talk him out of thinking stupid things. I just don't know what to do with him.
You've bought 30 CDs over the last few years and that gives you the right to steal music?[/qupte]
I count at least 41 on that pile, and there are many that weren't on the shelf at the time of that picture. And it's a year and a half, and I haven't been in work for the last 8 months...

I'd turn down an offer of work if it wasn't paying enough. Why should I turn down something from a friend if I don't want it? I'm not going to change for people. I'm a very honest and open person, and that's that. Of all people, I shouldn't need to put up a facade with my friends.
Look, all you're mums on the issue of piracy. If I didn't get into music via piracy, I'd not have those CDs on my shelf at all. I downloaded The Black Mages' albums years ago, and I recently bought copies.
shoulda been a poll with the following choices:
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Anal Carrots
I agree with this point most of all. I'll see if I can edit this or just keep it in mind for next time...

I forgot to mention I have a growing pile of CDs at home.
I'm not going to go out on limb and buy something I may well hate (I already have a DragonForce album for that). I'll borrow a CD, listen to it, and if I like it, I'll start collecting from that band. I'd also prefer to buy stuff people close to me don't have. Like, me and my best friend basically exchange CDs freely. Piracy? Probably. But I don't get into many bands by being told, "Hey, check out this band... Go buy their albums". Sorry, I'd rather finish off my Rush or R.E.M. collection than take a risk
I did that over a year ago with Rush's Retrospective, and now I have about 3/4s of their discography
Edit: I'm also not discussing it here. There's already plenty of topics about for that.

Oh snap, and he straight called you Jenny!!
Grrr, I need to vent a bit.

Ugh! I can't even read your post past this point without taking the time to comment.
You didn't want him to borrow you some CD's. You wanted him to loan you the CD's. You are the one doing the borrowing, he is the one doing the loaning. It drives me just absolutely bonkers when people use the word borrow to mean loan.
Don't get me started on itch vs. scratch and the fact that you do not EVER "itch your arm" but rather scratch your arm because it itches
Sorry, I'll get back to reading your post now.![]()
This topic reminds me of a Metallica song for some reason..
