Am I crazy.... Ibanez SR Basses

It's funny because I went from the Soundgear basses to the Music Man basses. I still love my Soundgears but compared to my Music Man's, they simply don't get played any more. In fact, I am debating on selling them because they never get played.

It helps that my Ibanez is now my only 4 string, it will now be a dedicated drop D instrument, thus used once or teice in our set. I am quite looking forward to the EBMM5, I just have to sell this beautiful saxophone to get there!

And what about the BTB700?

I got a BTB780 (a limited edition) but let it go because of the Barts mk2 (unable to cut thru our post thrash rehearsals), but the BTB700 sports a pair of EMG40 (the same as another Ibanez limited edition: SRT900)

Usually, EMG40 are bound for 5ers (as BTB705 demonstrates) and this is evident on:
- ESP/LTD Surveyor neckpickup;
- Jackson Concert Dave Ellefson;
- Cort Tribe Bass T74/T75

Now: think about BTB700 (say Burgundy Red) sporting EMG40

I'd go B, E, A, D stringin' for good (Slipknot's Paul Gray? Any?)

Let's put it this way: I'm so much into Soundgears that in just a few hours I'll be testing my brand new SR4500 Prestige with Barts USA Custom together with my band:bassist:

Ibanez has pretty much been my favourite brand for both guitar and bass for many years now. In my guitar playing days, their RG line was pretty much exactly what i was looking for in every way. I still have my old RG350, which as this point is banged up, scratched to hell, rusting parts and missing strings... but i just can bring myself to sell it. To many good memories.

When i moved to bass about 2 years ago, ibanez continued to provide pretty much exactly what i wanted. Ive dabbled in a few other brands as well, but ive always kept an ibanez or 2 in the collection. At this point, I pretty much have just stuck with my BTB575 and SR706. They just sound great and are very ergonomic and comfortable to play.

And while i question some of ibanez' signature model choices, i am never ashamed to say i play ibanez.

Fact of the matter is that a part of enlightenment is the realization that a good player can play the hell out of a "cheap" bass and make it sound awesome. :bassist:

There is a marked difference in the fit, finish and tone between a bottom end Ibanez and a top line Ibanez, but across all price points they prove to be a great value for the buck.

I think you're right about that. I have an SR300 and a 505. I'd really like to see the Premium models up close. I don't think there's much improved from the 500 in the 600 and 700 lines, just prettier wood.

Ibanez is killer bang for the buck, or perhaps just killer bang period... I have shed most of my Ibanez basses, but I still have the RD500 and ATK. The RD500 is an oddity among Ibanez basses (I guess they both are really...), but the tone it has is just perfect. It also plays REALLY smooth... the odd part is that about a year ago some got found in a warehouse somewhere and you could get them for something like $250... This was a year or three after it was discontinued! At that price anyone that didn't get one missed the boat entirely! Except for the 700+ lines, I think it was/is the finest bass that Ibanez has ever made!

I own an SR706, I really dig it. I sold a custom Warrior to buy it, take that how you may. The sound and the feel were exactly what I wanted in a bass, and still pretty much are.

I also really dig the premium models. If they come out with a 6er with a maple top, I may sell a kidney.

While I tend to prefer my Fender 4 and 5 string basses, I also own an SR505 and it's not going anywhere!

The times I do play it I love the lighter weight on my old, aching back. It practically plays itself, the low B alone will knock a wall down and there are are ton of great tones on hand. I'm always surprised when people buy one of these basses and the next day, feel like they have to change the pickups and preamp. Nonsense. The sounds are there and they're very, very good.
