Am I getting a good deal?

I went to a pawn shop today looking to get a bass and saw this one.

The guy said he'd let me have it for $200. It was in great condition. Is it a good deal? Should I try to talk him down some? Or should I go for one of those Essex basses?

i've never played the epiphone, but have read on here that they are not that great. i personally don't like the style, but if you do and it feels good then i don't think $200 is too much. i've never played an sx either, but i did just get one of their $25 blem necks and put it on an old p-bass, and i'm very pleased with the quality. the way everyone talks around here the sx's are about the best bang for the buck, and for almost half the price i don't see how you can go wrong with one. which sx bass are you looking at?

I have played the epi EB3 and I was NOT impressed AT ALL. It just feels poorly balanced and has a generally muddy tone.

i saw your other post about the amp, so i'm gonna answer on both here. if it was me, i'd go with the sx pack. you'll have a tuner and an amp to start practicing with right away. then i'd skip the behringer combo amp (these are widely regarded as junk) and keep an eye out for something a better. i picked up this amp at GC for $300 used and it has enough power to play with a band. i'm extremely happy with it.
