I love these, I remember a review from a Bass Player magazine in the late 80's or early 90's (got a great review). I'm happy anytime I see a guitar design that differs from the standard shapes set by Fender and Gibson. Don't get me wrong though, I think Leo nailed it with his designs but I really apprecieate what this guy is doing. He also has some more traditional shapes besides these that I think all have classic elements as well as original designs. His stuff reminds me of Jersey Girl guitars who I think are based out of Japan as well.
yeah I think they're cool, although I can appreciate the 'busy' comment for some of them. The top row is killer looking, to me they look medieval Japanese - a true Japanese inspired design rather than a clone of an American design.
Some interesting pup arangements too. Wonder if they have anything fancy about the electronics, something Wal inspired but Japanese refined maybe?
quite agree, I wish I'd tried one out when I lived in Japan. I bought a Tune 6 there, at a store that had service like a US gas station in the 1950's, this charming young lady took the bass down for me, tuned it, put a piece of -probably gaffer's tape, where a pickguard would have been if the bass had one, plugged it in and handed it to me with a pick. I bought it. no regrets.
Well, they certainly are original! Wierd? Yes. I like the body shapes on the fourth and fifth ones... but not so much i'd go price hunting. They are obviously custom and expensive. The thumbrest picture is quite cool. It is kind of unsightly, though.
Fun with instrument creation! I think it's cool people are experimenting. Someday there may be a new standard body style, though that seems unlikely. It probably won't be any of these. =)
I like Atlansia basses. In particular, I'm interested in the Solitaire (1-String bass), Dualist (2-string bass), and the Trister (3-string bass). They seem like they'd be cool, except they are a bit pricey.
I think they look fantastic and different. I have no idea how they play. If I had the money, I'd try one in a heartbeat. The only thing is that they look so distinctive, I feel like I'd need to have some distinctive "look" to go with them, and I'm just a regular weekend warrior kind of guy.
