You know, I have been considering one of those for a while. It may be time to take the plunge.
Some excellent points brought up here! The "buy it again" factor has got to be important when it comes to my love of the Grand Prix. I waited for 6 months to find that Grand Prix on ebay and when I did it was in Europe so I got to rewire the taps on the transformer from 220 to 110. Since then, I've occassionaly looked for another, just to see the pricing etc. and they seem rare. The BMAXT of course could easily be replaced at a later date (at least while it's still in production) so it will have to meet higher sonic standards I think.
Excellent point about the "jazz pre" and "fussion pre". Something that I will absolutely need to keep in mind as the comparisons begin.
Of course this weekend I'm flying to Souix Falls to play at a friends wedding with a band I've only emailed with and they'll be providing the backline... I may come home in love with something completely new and the GAS will be back in full effect

I received the BMAXT on Monday and got to use it last night when I subbed with a band hosting a blues jam. It gave me an opportunity to not only play it for a couple hours with a band, but to also hear two other bass players playing through it as well.
My first impression is that I really like it. It sounded good really good with my US Deluxe Jazz 5. I also got to hear it with a Stingray and a P-Bass when the other guys used it. To me it sounded somewhat "scooped" in the mids, which I like though the guy with the P-Bass fiddled with it the entire time he was on stage and later told me he didn't really care for it.
Anyway, I'm thinking the IOD maybe won't be sticking around and the Grand Prix may get moth balled for a while.
