Am I silly for not using any pedals?

Pedals are for those of us who couldn't gey a good sound simply plugging a bass straight into an amp. You're doing good!

Thank you! After years of sub-par amps, I have finally learned to buy quality amps. Not to start another debate but that's what I tell most newbies to focus on. A quality amp can make a mediocre bass sound great but a crap amp will make a quality bass sound maybe just ok if not like crap.

There's a parallel in the photographic community which kind of fits this scenario.
There are those that need the widest-range zoom lens one can buy; say a 17mm-300mm (example). Then there are those who argue it's best to buy a nice 35mm or a 50mm and learn to be a photographer by concentrating on your composition skills.

I used to be that photographer...Now I just use my phone.

Golly, I never thought of it as an "identity crisis" but you may be right. I'm thinking I'm gonna stay pedal free until I know if and what pedal I should incorporate into my sound.

jeez...with that plan, where you gonna spend your money? Food? Rent? Pshhhh....life is short....get a PLL.
