Am I wrong for this?

a Squire CV Jazz? Changed the pickups to what?

I am considering buying the CV Jazz, the price is already a month's salary here, what more a MIA Fender.. So probably a CV and a change in pups would do me..

Live with the stock pickups before committing to a change. The CV pickups are not ceramic and steel like the old squire pickups, they are Alnico 5 just like Fender MIA pickups. My CV 50s P stock pickup sounds great, and I wouldn't consider changing it. Also, listen to the Ed Friedland video -- those are all stock pickups. Save your money... I promise Seymour Duncan is already rich enough!

The Fender jazz sounds better to my ears than the Squier, but the 50's and 60's Squier P sound better than their Fender counterparts. This has been pretty much my experience IRL as well. I changed out the pickups on my Squier jazz and it sounds as nice as any MIA Fender now.

I am thinking about changing the pickups in my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz. What kind of pickups did you go with and why?

its not even about the sound,... watch the guy playing the instruments. he looked so into the fenders and he's just playing the squires. if a bass "just" sounds good,.. i pass. if a bass feels good, i buy!!! you can alter sound until the end of time...

Thats exactly how I hear it, still want a Squier 50's P sometime, quite a few of my fave players play them, and I just love the tone with some thick flats, and t00bs. :D

Doesn't hurt that LPB and maple are one of my fave colour combos either, just like my Fender.

That's what I thought when I listened as well. The Custom Shop Jazz was the only one that I thought sounded better than the Squiers.

And even on that comparison, while I prefered the Custom Shop when played with both pickups and when favoring the neck pickup, I thought the soloed bridge pickup sounded better on the Squier. Very impressive demo.

The only I thing could say different, is, I liked the Squier 50's P over the CS Jazz even, but I generally prefer P's to J's, other than that, spot on with my thoughts.

Hey all, as far as the sound and strings. Read the comments, Ed states that his p bass has 7 year old flats on and he wasn't going to change them.
And yes all three sound great, I spent 4 hours playing the cv squiers and all the mim fenders at gc, ended up with the cv jazz, will add some new cts pots and then giver hell n see what happens.:bassist:

I liked the 50's precision, god that sounded good...the other 2 I'd go for the Fender. That Fender jazz v the Squier jazz was VERY like comparing the sound of my first 2 basses.

The Fender jazz had a HELLUVA lot more mids in the sound whereas the squier sounded "scooped"...squier p sounded too damn bright too, although nicer than the squier jazz.

Given the choice of all the squiers I'd go for the 50's - 2nd choice based on the sound from the video would be the 60's Precision...
