It's really hard to make the call because it seems none of the fenders have new strings and it sounds like all of the Squiers do.
The Fender jazz sounds better to my ears than the Squier, but the 50's and 60's Squier P sound better than their Fender counterparts. This has been pretty much my experience IRL as well. I changed out the pickups on my Squier jazz and it sounds as nice as any MIA Fender now.

a Squire CV Jazz? Changed the pickups to what?
I am considering buying the CV Jazz, the price is already a month's salary here, what more a MIA Fender.. So probably a CV and a change in pups would do me..
