Double Bass Amateur orchestras and the 'C' extension

No, it's really only me who has that level of training (no degree, but I did a Performing Diploma at the Royal College back in the day), then we have two guys who have converted from electric bass in the last few years. Good musicians, but less experienced double bass players. One of those has an extension. One guy pretty much self taught, been playing for years, he also has an extension, good dependable player knows a LOT of repertoire, and a lady who is working her way through the grade exams. Typical amateur orchestra, I guess, a mix of different skill and experience levels. One thing we do well is play as a section. I make them listen to the big Berlin band....

One player in the bass section of the orchestra I play in has a C extension. Once the bass I'm commissioning from Martin Penning is finished, I may be the 2nd player with an extension (if I'm still playing with the same group, that is.. and if I do indeed pony up for an extension).
