Double Bass Amati Double Bass

Hello all,
I am looking at a couple of basses this evening. One is an older Kay which I am completely familiar with; however, on of the basses is an Amati at 2k. There is limited information on the web concerning these. I am assuming from the asking price, this is an imported hybrid. Anyone have any information concerning this line of basses both pro and con.

The Amati is more likely the shape/design of the bass than the brand. If it is "branded" an Amati bass at that price, it's probably Chinese.
