Vacationing in the local mountains, I met a woman staying in the cabin beside mine who was traveling all over the state with her cat, which she kept on a long tether and pushed about in a baby carriage. She said it was her intent to show the cat as much of the world as she could before she was unable to do so due to an aggressive cancer bedeviling her.

As she told me all this, the cat -- extremely corpulent for being driven everywhere -- sat in pine needles and blinked at us like a little Buddha.

I realized the woman was stark raving mad, of course. But when she launched into her theories of the celestial origins of man, the Annunaki as the probable "true gods" and men mere drones for mining gold for the space visitors -- I realized that she embraced the same arcane philosophies as I do, and that I was therefore likely stark raving mad, too.
