View attachment 3542160 Lake effect storm approaching downtown.
It’s coming!!
I experienced one of the Buffalo lake effect snow storms years ago. I left Niagara Falls and the weather was clear. As I drove south on Interstate Route 190, I figured I should stop for gas. Just as I was heading toward Cheektowaga, it looked like a curtain of snow where it went from bare road to snowy road. The traffic was almost at a complete stop. I got off the exit ramp and saw two gas stations. I pulled into the one station lot and they already closed. By then the snow was coming down really fast. I slid across the road to the other gas station and convenience store. I filled up my tank and watched cars and tractor trailers sliding in every direction.
At that point, I decided to park next to the building and wait it out. I figured that the store was open with food, drinks, and restrooms and I was safe. Many people asked me if they could help and I said I was good and appreciated their offer. I was told there was an emergency shelter down the road but I did not want to chance it.
It ended up there was about 2-1/2 feet of snow and ice in 4 hours. After the roads were clear of traffic, I decided to venture out. I had a treacherous ride to Orchard Park, NY, where I picked up Route 219, which goes the whole way to my hometown, Johnstown, PA.
We get horrible snow and ice storms here; but, that lake effect storm came down out of nowhere fast and furious.

No thank you. When learning to fly my instructor firmly stated, "Always fly as if you have 100 passengers sitting behind you and and the cabin crew is ready to serve them dinner. You will live much longer".
