Did some set-up work on my bass (Christopher DB 102), earlier this winter. Replaced the tailgut and sound post, among a couple other minor things. For the most part, the instrument had more volume and projection. The only niggling little issue was the E string was still a little dull and "thuddy". Most of the reading I've done (Mostly Chuck Traeger's book and some posts on this forum) pointed to the sound post likely being too tight (long).
I removed the old post and made a new one just 1mm shorter and installed it about 4mm south of where the old one had been.
Success! The E string has better sustain and tone. It has more of a ring to it, and the volume is pretty even across all 4 strings. Just in time for next weekend's hootenanny!
