Ambience effects.

I'm new to this idea so I'm looking for recommendations for pedal that can get me a real ambient, spacey sound. Reverb I'm guessing, but what one?

I'm a hard rock guy, but a big part of me is into instrumental music.

Earthquaker Devices Afterneath is probably the most out there, spacey reverb I've tried. I love mine, it's awesome.

Get the digitetch digiverb. They're like $50, it has suuuper deep reverbs, a good surf drip, and a reverse verb

Iron Ether Nimbus. Almost bank breaking, but worth the stretch, look used to save a couple bucks.

I don't know exactly what your budget is, but Old Blood Noise Endeavours makes some absolutely incredible pedals that are great for spacey ambience type sounds. I think most of them are around $200 new, but maybe you could find some used. Their Dark Star and Procession reverb pedals are really cool.

Another vote for the DigiTech Digiverb for reverb. You can find it for $50 or $60.

For ambient spacey delay effects I use a Boss Tera Echo, but it's not for everyone.

I use an Afterneath. I had a Procession as well.

I'm planning on getting a Neunebar Immerse. Looks absolutely killer. Also still have the Avalanche run on my brain. The sound on sound feature is very appealing.

I'm not exactly sure if budget either. Maybe about $150ish Canadian.

@JesseVMT .. If you don't mind a bigger pedal than say Boss, Digitech, or MXR... check out the WayHuge Aquapuss... also, the Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master is fantastic.. it's Reverb, and Delay... you can dial in ine or the other effect, or a mix of both.
Prymax sometimes has discount deals on all their effects and you get a heck of a deal.

my only experience with reverb in a pedal is the "holy grail" nano reverb by EH. got mine used for $50 USD, but i think they're about $120 new. it's simple, works as expected, and sounds nice.

i like to twist some knobs .... versus digging thru parameters ...

but twisting knobs requires making some notes to get 'that' sound again .. !

Unfortunately with reverb and delay the sound quality definitely gets better the higher the cost. And the subtlest changes in tone can end up making a huge difference in performance.

I agree a Dispatch Master and an Aquapuss or Superpuss would be great places to start. But I just picked up the Moog MiniFooger delay and the sound quality is so much better than my Carbon Copy or Dispatch Master. It's hard to put my finger on exactly the subtle difference, but so far with the band it has made a big difference, far more than I expected.

There is an ambient music thread here somewhere you should check out. Might be some ideas in there. For your budget look at used Boss delays. DD-whatevers usually have several features for you to get weird with.

EH Superego. On automatic it catches attacked notes and holds them until the next, like a delay that starts new. With something in it's loop, that adds to the sound. In the loop of mine I have a harmonizer up a fifth, Meatbox reissue and a Rainbow Machine, took me awhile to use them all. Superego alone is a must. It's replaced the old volume pedal into delay/and loop.

Zoom MS70CDR sounds great to me. Lots of guys on the TGP forum also dig it to, so it definitely doesn't have any tone suck.

Another thing is that the combination of a good delay and reverb, and maybe an envelope shaper will get you really far. And a super cheap way to do this cheap meaning $50, is to get a multi that has all 3 and more. I know the sounds are not going to be "as good" as a Pigtronix or Malekko pedal ( and I AM prejudiced ..but it's a cool way to get in on the fun and still have money for ..fill in the blank. Take a look at the g1on or B1on from Zoom..all sorts of reverbs and delays and envelope things. Then once you know what's up, you can start replacing the stuff a pedal at a time.
