Agree - the larger cases do put me off many of the more 'esoteric' and interesting EHX pedals. I do sometimes wonder with EHX how much the bigger cases are there to accomodate lots of single-function controls rather than being bound by large internals (PCB, connectors etc). A lot of other pedal builders have been using dual-concentric controls for a long time now (Boss, Source Audio and Digitech quickly come to mind) and presumably as users we are happy to use them. In the case of the SE+, It seems to me that Dry/Effect, Attack/Decay, Gliss/Layer and Rate/Depth might make logical pairings that could easily reduce the footprint, assuming the internals are not dictating the physical size of the case.

Wouldn't it be funny if your were "locked into the onboard effects" only... Yes I left out that detail wondering if anyone needed me to write that too. There are some choices with EH that do lock you into settings, like the vibrato on the Mel9 "cello". The SE+ takes up more space on the board, that's the main issue in my opinion.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years, don't use EHX pedals if you're concerned about board space. LOL.

I had the SuperEgo, then went for the SuperEgo+. The SuperEgo was better, to me. I had a harder time dialing in the +, much less dialing in the add on effects, which, when they would trigger were decent, but nothing as mindblowing as Bill Ruppert's video. The original SuperEgo I felt could be overwhelming at times, but loved the sounds, and if I were in the market for it again, I'd go for the original. That said, the new Strymon Cloudburst, which is 4 bucks less than a SuperEgo+ new, seems like a great candidate as well. I always referred to the SuperEgo as "my creepy reverb", the Cloudburst seems like an enhanced shimmer reverb with a freeze as well, though not as easily engaged it seems as the SuperEgos.

That sounds amazing ~ this is exactly the reverb of my dreams for bass and synth. It reminds me of playing large spaces and playing those sounds.

The looper is able to quantify loops, which is a good help for using it live.

Did you mean quantize, or is the Microcosm able to express/implement some sort of mathematic or logic functions with the loops? Either would be cool live.

Of course you're right! There are mathematic and logic functions that do lots of stuff and I'm fairly sure that one of the things they do could be described as quantifying, but what I actually meant was the quantize option in the looper.

I have a similar signal flow to what you're going for using a parallel loop switch:

In

tuner > compressor > Plus pedal > OD > SVD >
OBNE Signal Blender:
Loop A: Delay > Reverb
Loop B: input kill switch > Microcosm
Out

I use the Microcosm mainly to make background noises, as well as weird loops.

The kill switch to the Microcosm input allows its loops or 'held' parts to continue while I use the other pedals to play over it.

The Plus pedal is great for setting up drones into the effects, playing volume swells/ambient things, and even weird glitchy blips (especially into the Microcosm).

If you only need two parallel loops and a clean channel I highly recommend the OBNE Signal Blender. Small size for what it does.

Depending on what you want to loop and what effects you want to have available to play over those loops, be sure to map out your flow. I had a couple annoying re-wires that were avoidable but for my own impatience.

So far i have restructured my board similar.
Signal is split at a Badger Schism w/ ch 1 having a hold/sustain + delay/reverb, and ch 2 an unaffected closed loop. there is a channel 3, which is just a clean/mute blend which is set to mute the signal at the input. with ch 1 set to trail off when cut, i should be able to get some good reverb tails.

this is my starting point, with all other effects (except eq's) in serial loops before the Schism.

Still hooking this up actually, and waiting on deliveries. almost there.

I will post a pic of my 'layout in progress' later today.

Here is the 'harmonic sustainer' board. The signal is as described above, and:
Now with a Secret Preamp in place of the Submarine Designer (under retrofit).
RFE for fine tuning what's coming out of the board.
The Hyperdrive is getting a refit, and will return to the board soon, thus completing the distortion section.

The Infinite is interesting, I need a few weeks to really get used to it to formulate a helpful opinion.
I'm getting sustained drones will long decays with the Philosopher's Tone (sustain at mostly full) + mid/boost + Bluebeard + More.
The more harmonic enhancers I add to the chain without muddying or overwhelming the signal, the happier I am.
I think this is a good start.
