The SE+ takes up more space on the board, that's the main issue in my opinion.
Agree - the larger cases do put me off many of the more 'esoteric' and interesting EHX pedals. I do sometimes wonder with EHX how much the bigger cases are there to accomodate lots of single-function controls rather than being bound by large internals (PCB, connectors etc). A lot of other pedal builders have been using dual-concentric controls for a long time now (Boss, Source Audio and Digitech quickly come to mind) and presumably as users we are happy to use them. In the case of the SE+, It seems to me that Dry/Effect, Attack/Decay, Gliss/Layer and Rate/Depth might make logical pairings that could easily reduce the footprint, assuming the internals are not dictating the physical size of the case.
