any favorite versions/interpretations of the Bach cello suits?
I’m really liking the Rostropovich versions atm.
ive never liked romantic over rubato/vibrato versions of the cello suits though, i cant stand some French school cellists play the cello suits, cork sniffer mode level 46897511346890866

Same when Perehia plays Bach, I can’t stand him.

sadly never heard one on ebass I liked.
i’m probably the problem, but hey, would be boring if we all liked the same music now would it,

Seems pretty cool, kind of like a granular delay but not. I don't think Boss makes a proper granular pedal, do they? I bet this would be cool in the fx loops of various pedals such as the SY-1 or the EHX Superego.

pretty sure there’s a slicer component to the boss md-500.

to my ear it’s sort of a gated tremolo or patterned lfo.

tbh, i’m not sure it’s super useful for instruments of low frequency.

Probably true, unless maybe in conjunction with a crossover and some serious high and high-mid content.

It was okay. Not geared towards the level of users frequenting this thread. It’s not a bad listen but there isn’t anything substantial.

Because I'm currently down a complex oscillator rabbit hole, this discussion inspired me to watch the 10 minute promo for the never-made Buchla documentary. It's not that great either. "Don was weird!" "Don was creative" "Don was difficult."

These guys, on the other hand, OMG. I met them in Toronto last year. Fantastic historical work that I don't think any actual university academic (speaking as one myself) could pull off: The M.E.M.S. Project

ok, i have a question for you vets.
Saw the Mononeon vid about his new bass and he mentions being influenced by John Cage, Stockhausen and Milton Babbitt.
Are there any recordings of him playing in that “vein” cuz I dont hear it personally. Maybe in his microtonal stuff with Fuze, a little perhaps…..??…..

I’m definitely not starting anything about his instrument and if we like him or not, plenty of threads on TB about that already (end me please).

But him mentioning those names and the avant guard stuck with me and had me thinking.

He’s good but he isn’t Jamaaladeen Tacuma good as far as truly original playing on electric bass…. does this make any sense towards what i’m questioning myself about?

I've had a bit of f***er of a couple weeks. So I gave in to my impulses and ordered an Implexus after all the FM experimentation, which arrived today. The idea behind the synth is something a "west coast" but with a good filter, and that's what it is. It's really well built. Like really well built. And mostly very well designed except for a couple odd choices, like balanced outputs that are not shielded from phantom power (so you can't plug it into any mixer with global phantom power and need to use TRS to TS cables in most situations), and no modulatable FM index. But...the sound. It can do really nice mono synth stuff, but all the harmonics generation and wavefolding and FMing and audio rate LFOs allowed for some rather intense sounds.

This isn't composed or even really improvised with any proper intension or lack of intention, it's just a few clips from me trying to make it freak out on the drone setting with no sequencer or CV input (though I did plug one of the oscillators into the filter modulation input just to enjoy the audio rate modulation of cutoff). I'll get back to my wannabe Cortini stuff soon enough. Consider this my tribute to @ugly.
