Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Say what you will about Tool, but if nothing else their cover of No Quarter is amazing.

this cover always gives me chills… it’s just so good…

always loved adams intro tone - so underwater warble goodness.

i think that and machine heads cover of message in a bottle are the ones that rule all over the originals.

mad a tool fan I semi used to buy into the hype but lost it around lateralis… 10,000 days had some good moments but their last was barely worth a repeat listen…
I’d always rate schism as my top tool song… used to be push it of the patient or the grudge when I was an angsty teenager hah

Sorry to say I disagree. I am a huge Tool fan and I appreciate the tribute to Led Zeppelin, it sounds okay, but the Zeppelin version is...well...it's Led Zeppelin. No substitute. No JPJ keys. no Bonham, no Page, just not good enough.

I hear this a lot, but I've listened to their latest several times recently and it grows on me every time.

Verbos was one of the makers I was thinking of for redoing my rack. Was it decent or did you have problems?

No problems at all. I had the Verbos Complex Oscillator and Amp and Tone, as well as an amazing Cwejman VCO and filter. I just rarely use em, so I figured I’d let em go and try to assemble a rack I would use

I'm on this binge today.

I really used to love Prong, though that style isn’t normally my thing.
Never could get into Tool for some reason

I think Tool is one of those bands that for whatever reason has people that either love or hate them. It reminds me of a great Jerry Garcia quote: "We're like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice."

I’m pretty lukewarm on them. I like some stuff but I don’t love everything. I appreciate the nerdy touches that I’m too dumb to truly understand. However, the over-the-top fans and their enthusiasm is the turnoff for me. This is true for just about any popular band where the fans are so deeply invested that they can’t understand how anyone could have a different viewpoint about the band’s greatness.

Checked out a Dunable Bass VI today. Very nice, but not for me... but close. I think I might like something between a Bass VI and a Nordy Acinonyx.
30-31" Scale
5 String
BEADG tuning using Bass VI sized strings (maybe EADGC, but all wound strings)
String spacing tighter than the Nordy but no tighter than the Bass VI.

I gotta check that out. Really wanting a bass VI.

Got this in an effort to get back into playing bass through eurorack

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that. I looked at it on sale at PC, but I've already got a module or two for getting bass into the rack, just without the other features.
