American Original vs. Classic 50s

Ok, it's advice time. I'm going to buy a p bass, but I need to decide which one. As it is right now, I could buy a Classic 50s precision (the Mexican ones that kick ass). I played one, and it was heavenly. OR- I can save up for a while and get an American Original Precision. I know that I'd be more than happy with the Classic 50s, but is it worth the extra money for the AO bass? Will I regret not saving for it?

It depends on what you believe to be important for you.

The AO will generally be a more solid bass (which doesn't mean that the Classic won't be solid), with more attention to detail. The AO features a 9.5" radius, whereas the Classic has the vintage correct 7.25". You should try the AO, too, to see if it speaks to you.

Personally, if this bass was to stay with me, I would go for the AO. However, since I am an all-vintage-specs guy, I would try first to hunt down a new NAV '58 that hasn't sell. Vintage radius, chrome covers on and everything in the box.
