American P-Bass....Really?

Just sharing a moment I had yesterday. Went to GC with friend who was picking up a new snare drum and other goodies, so while he was dickering with the sales guy, I went over to there bass dept, which for a new store I find completely disapointing. I'm a 5 string guy for the most part, and they only have like 5 of them in the entire store (which is why I don't shop there). So anyway, I grabbed a nice 3TS/Tort American P off the wall to pass the time, and plug into a Ampeg SVT4-PRO and SVT410HLF...and WOW..had an unexpected suprise with how awesome this combination sounded. I had a Mexi-P for a little while that I upgraded to a Lindy Fralin pup that didn't feel (floppy E string) or sound anywhere close to the same league as this instrument. Of course now I'm GAS'n pretty hard for that particular bass. I'm sure it would sound every bit as awesome through my M-Pulse600 and SVT410 HLF that I've been gigging recently.

My bass history has been:

Yamaha BB404
Yamaha BB605
Yamaha BB415
Ibanez ATK305 (still my primary bass)
Fender MIM P
Fender Jazz Bass 24 V (MIK)

and a couple other backup/practice (cheap) basses that are now gone. Didn't expect to be wowed by a P-bass...but I think I know what my next bass will probably be. :bassist:

I like how there is always somone who comes into a thread about a person being pleasantly surprised by a P-bass (or any other kinda bass, for that matter) and says "Forget that, try this bass that I like instead. " What's up with that?

It never ceases to amaze me just how good the MIA Fender P Basses really are. Like you, my stupid a$$ made the mistake of picking one up. I just gotta have one! I'm only short about $1,100 of getting one after I sell my current bass...
Anyway, don't let the haters get you down, for the most part, they are trying to justify spending more on an instrument that is inferior. You get your MIA P Bass, and rock on.

Yeah, current American P-Basses are pretty awesome, both in 4 and 5 string.

I don't know about those G&L SB basses. . . they look kinda girly to me. . . but if you are the kind of guy who can sport a pink polo shirt with gusto, then those G&Ls might be just the right fit for you.

BTW, they don't make G&L SB basses in 5-string, so the recommendation to the OP is moot.
