american special jb opinion

after a lot of research i decided to go for the American Standard Jazz Bass Invalid Link Removed and as i was ready to make my order i saw this: Invalid Link Removed. anyone owns this? why is it so cheaper? i would like to know how it feels related to the am. st.

They're awesome basses, for the money.
They use "cheaper" hardware, like open gear tuners & a vintage style bridge. Paired with a greasebucket tone circuit.
They're usually pretty light weight, well crafted & play very nicely.
I kick myself for not having kept my Am Spec P-bass. It was one of the nicest I've ever played.

I came extremely close to buy a Special J just like the one I owned: black n'maple

Yet, for a wider reply, I gotta add still American Standard are better IMHO

I thought the 'Special' had a faster neck when I tried one.
It did feel somewhat 'cheaper' if you know what I mean. Not at the quality level of the American Standard, IMO.

Still the special was not too shabby and had a good tone to it.

I just tried an American Special JB the other day at Rudy's shop in manhattan. Sounded awesome! I liked it much more than all the other basses I tried there, including the American Standard JB. Plus, it was the cheapest bass on the room. Go figure!

I wouldn't mind owning one. The necks are definitely slimmer. Quality wise, they seem pretty much on par with US Std models, less the hardware and electronics. If I did grab one, I'd probably put in a different pickup and dump the greasebucket. I like them.

I have an american special jazz bass and it is the best thing that has happened to me !!,, a fact if you buy an American Standard Jb make sure it is 1990 ', because since the year 2000 they are manufactured in Mexico!
