American standard vs American special

I'm picking up a special this week my main reasons I love the neck & the ones I've played so far,are super light and that candy apple red w/ maple neck I can't get it out of my head.

that is my favorite also. It does not have a graphite-reinforced neck I think. The American Standard does.

That's what I originally thought, too, but I believe the Fender website does say it has a graphite reinforced neck.

fender says it has a graphite-reinforced neck that was another big thing I liked

The American Special has the same hardware and pickups as the Mexican made Standard series. I played a Special next to an American Standard P-Bass and although the Special was nice it wasn't as nice (to me) as the American Standard. Some people like the Specials fine as they come but they struck me as a platform for upgrades and I didn't think they are as cool as the Highway 1 series they replaced.

... just to clarify ... the MIM Standard uses Standard Jazz pups, the AmSpec uses Vintage Alnico ...

... the AmSpec would have actually have replaced the Hwy ONE, as the 1 was discontinued in '06 ..
