Amp blown!!!!!!!

EDIT: Not worth the negative energy

OR

Have some positive energy. I was trying to suggest some cost effective ideas that might lead in the right direction. The OP didn't seem comfortable with some of the responses.

Why not eliminate a few easy things. Including the speaker cable as I agree with most...

The word is impedance not ohmage!!!!! :rollno:

I know you're correct... but couldn't resist.

Impedence and resistance are related, but not the same. A driver voice coil has impedence, which changes with load and frequency. A resistor has resistance which remains mostly constant with only a little variation due to temperature...

An ohmmeter will measure the dc electrical resistance value in ohms....

My speakon cable is a neutrik nl2fc 1+ on both ends. Is this bad for my purposes?

There is only 1 conductor in it? If that is true (which I doubt), there is your problem.

It should be +1 and a -1 on both ends...red wire going to +1, black wire going to -1. Or vice versa, the colors don't matter as long as the same wire goes to the same place on both ends of the cable.

Do you have a multimeter?

Do either of these amps have fuses on the speaker outs? Many do, some externally, some internally. They should've blown to protect the amp from the shorted load. Check that, your amps might still be good. Many also have an internal fuse somewhere back by the power supply in addition to the one on the rear by the main power cord. Check for that too.

Speakon is the absolute best type of connector for speaker outputs. That said if it is wired incorrectly or the wire itself is damaged or defective then the best connector doesn't matter...

As a previous poster suggested make resistance tests with an ohmmeter and wiggle the wire throughout its length DURING the test to verify their is no intermittent short occurring. In particular, wiggle near the ends as this is the most common place for failure.

Due to the design of the Speakon connector (prevents accidental contact) it is nearly impossible to test a Speakon equipt cable without a similar jack connected to an end of the cable. The jack will provide a place (for the ohmmeter) to make good connection to the cable during the test. If you don't have one you could borrow one from the cab (or the amp, whichever is easier).

And +1 to checking ALL the fuses. But blown fuses would only send me back to the cable to find out if that was why they had blown.

Most certainly, must find out why. I'm wondering if the OP doesn't know about the speaker out fuses, he may think his amps are "blown" when he could "fix" them all himself for the whopping sum of $2.

Well actually I have mixed cabs before (swr goliath and a workingmans 210 both at 8 ohms connected to a swr 550x at 4ohms. You might not wanna assume next time. Yeah I used the wrong word but the principal was there. Get on board and help instead of jacking around.

I know that you are upset and trying to figure the way out of your situation. I know you are new, less than a year, to this site. however you must realize that humour, sometimes misplaced, is as much a part of Talk Bass as information. It's a great stress reliever. Being snappy is not the way to get help. Some time in the future, Otherclef might just be the one with the answer to some other problem you have.

Personally I LOL'd :D

I tend to LOL anytime I hear the word Ampeg or Hartke.

Gets even better when the next word is not working......

This is no help I know man, but this might be a case of bad luck
this is why I no longer own any amps by these manufactures.

Hartke not so bad ...Ampeg....LOL

I can hear it already..... my Ampeg works fine stupid troll....:spit:
If it can rack mount, and it says Ampeg on it......sell it
if it says 4ohm min class D on the back.....sell it
