Amp&Cab help please

I'm new to TB (fresh from UG)... so go easy on me.

I'm looking for an amp and cab to gig and practice with, with a minimum of 300watts. i'd like the cab to be a 410.
I play in a metalcore band, and the tone i'm looking for is that kinda crunchy dirty tone that the old Ampeg SVT's had.

I play with a pick (if thats any help).

Please are any of you in the same situation?
even if not what would be your advice with regard to brand?
I've had a bit of a look at Carvin, especially the BX500.
they look tasty, but i live in the UK, which makes it difficult if the thing breaks.
I've also looked at the Ashdown MAG300, but i dont really know that much about it tone wise.
I dont have a clue about cab makes.

if money is high, just buy an svt and an 810. if money is low, just add a sansamp vt bass pedal to any amp and an 810.

if you want to play stuff like metalcore or doom or any insanely ridiculously loud music, big speaker cabs are your friend. a 410 will be ok, but two of them will be much better for that type of music.

Ashdown are good and solidly built, As many people have said, if you can get a sans amp VT as well, great joy will be yours!:bassist:

There's an ashdown 8x10 MAG for about £400, and I know it only leaves you £200 to get the head, but if you can find the right price used then I'd say that's the best suited to what you're aiming for.

I use a Trace Elliot head into Ashdown 2x10 and 1x15 and you can get it really nice and gritty ;)

EDIT: Just found this on ebay. New, and on offer! if you're quick you can get a half-decent 8x10 for half your budget! For now i'd recomend it! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ashdown-MAG-8...vr_id=&cguid=f68b80d91230a0aad4d18041fd443b52
