Are the DI's on amps volume dependent? Meaning as you adjust your output volume, does it also affect the DI volume? Or is it fixed? Just curious because some time ago, I was using my little GK MB200 and I DI'd out to the soundman and he complained he wasn't getting much signal so I turned up my amp really high (Had to use the volume on my bass to dial back). It seemed the volume also controlled the volume of the DI. Is this correct? My Markbass amps have volume knobs for the DI's. My BBE preamp does not but never a complaint for lack of signal.

Just curious........

It depends on the amp and where the DI signal is taken from. Most pre-eq DI's are taken before the input gain stage, most post eq DI's are taken before the master volume control, but there are exceptions that are usually made for a specific and useful reason.

You should have a Pre/Post switch on the back. That would make a difference.....

If you send DI signal post EQ and control stage volume only with gain (while master is set at 100%) it may happen that your sound man complains lowish signal at the input of the mixing console.
Anyway you'd get better tonal results (stage sound and front of house) if you adjust the preamp level to "proper" level with the gain knob and then control stage volume only with the master control.
