amp for thrash metal, need help!

Like they said, get a mesa, I would personally copy Cliff Burton's rig but you said you wont be using distortion and his rig was used to max out the bass and then make it cut through with distortion.

Only way to know is to test them out.

+1 for the Mesa BB 750. I used one on the weekend. AWESOME tone both clean & with an overdrive that's simply superb!!! One of the BEST Hybrid amps I've ever tried. I'd still say go all tube, but Thats MY personal opinion.

Gallien-Krueger and Ampeg are classics for thrash. The original Dave Ellefson/Megadeth sound of the early 1980s was defined by a GK 800RB, and the Ampeg SVT-CL is a general classic for rock and metal.

I currently run a 2001RB, and it works beautifully with my GK Neo 212 for progressive metal and thrash (a few of the styles we've integrated into my current band). Don't use my band's demos as tone references though... my recorded basslines aren't up yet.
