What about the SWR HEadlite, is it any good? What's the fan noise like on the amps I'm interested in - the Markbass, GK, ampeg, aguilar and swr?

Yeah the db750 is not what I'm looking for - too heavy and too expensive. The only point I was making was that I'm undecided as to whether I get a 500w or 800w head (most of the amps I'm looking at have an 800w version), and if I decided t go for the extra power then the Aguilar would be out of the running, as it has no compact bigger brother.

I can't find anywhere in the UK that stocks them, and remarkably there are no youtube videos on it.
youtube maybe an issue......the series is fairly new..I have the 200w head and I think the 500 watter just released early summer +/-
Well if I can't try one, let alone even hear one, I'll have to rule it out. So, contenders are: the mark bass little mark tube, the gk mb fusion, the ampeg pf500 and the aguilar th500. I also like the sound of the swr amplite but I know next to nothing about it, can anyone enlighten me?
I play a Stingray too, and I absolutely love the MB Fusion 500. Two foot switchable channels, 500 watts, tube pre, incredible EQ (and soooo easy to use—no parametric doodaddery to mess with...), small, light, will do anything from warm and fat to clanky and clean to overdriven like mad and everything in between. It's just a great little amp. I chose this one after trying out six or seven different manufacturers (TC, Aguilar, Markbass, Eden, Genz, SWR... there's another that escapes me at the moment, but if it comes back to me I'll come back and do an edit...).

Right jimmy, guess that explains it then haha. That's great to know yango, especially as you play the same bass. Big plus for the Gallien Krueger.
I know you've already dismissed the RH450, however, I had an RH450 and the RS210 and it was loud. As Loud as the TH500 I had through the same cab. I do think they should change the marketing on the website, however.
Perceived loudness: 2x the power will give you a 3dB difference in loudness (dB = 10 * Log (Pout / Pin). 3dB is the smallest perceived loudness change the average human can discern. So, going from a 500 watt amp to an 800 what amp would only give you a 2dB increase in volume, or 2dB of headroom, if you will. I think it's always better to use more cabinets (or more efficient ones).

And Ampeg is running a special promo on the Portaflex line. $50 off the regular price of a PF500 and $100 off the regular price of a PF800 which is already a good deal IMO. Makes me want to nab one myself!

Of the ones you still have listed, the TH500 I had was very good. I've not played the Rumble head, but I played a couple of the combo's and was really impressed.
The PF500, at one time, was having reliability issues, if I recall correctly. They sound okay, not on the same level as the TH500, in my opinion.

I take your point, but i wouldn't bother with TC Electronic now anyway, I wouldn't buy from a company that I think are deceitful. Also, I'm looking at getting a 4x10, and I wouldn't like carting round a 4x10 and an extension cab. That rig wouldn't fit in my car!
It's kind of like the mb fusion 500 vs the little mark tube, and the t500 vs the pf500.
Looking at a review of the Tecamp Puma 1000 review by Bassplayer, they say the word hi-f springs to mind when talking about the amp, and I'm looking for a bit of a warmer sound. Plus there's nobody near me that stocks it, so I wouldn't be able to try one out. I actually really like the Carvin, sounds like it has a variety of good sounds. Looking around though can;t find anywhere in the uk that stocks it

Between the three I'd go with the Markbass if you're worried about warmth, though all fit the bill nicely. Markbass amps are also, in my experience, loud as balls.
Cool. Well what I like about the LM tube is that you can blend between the tube and ss, so there's a variety of tones available.

Have you checked out the new V3 Rumble. I think Fender has made some real improvements with the Rumble line. Don't know if you can get them in Great Britain. Here in the U.S. you can get a 500 watt head for $400.
