I don't know why these are not more looked at. I am getting either the SB200H or the SB500H next week for myself. I had decided on the SB500H, then changed to the 200 as I really like how small it is - smaller than the GK. But I may change it back to the 500 as it would satisfy ANY gig for me.

hiya bebass, ....what cab/cabs you going to run it through?....I have the 200w and through 2@1x15" 8ohm cabs, it is very loud, ..depending on your use/gigs etc.....but yeah I wanted the 500 version too, until I stumbled on the Orange at a steal of a $$

You may well be right, but as you can tell from the article, it's not cut and dry. I was always told, in physics (acoustics) that 10 dB is twice as loud (requiring 10x the power) and 6 dB is about a 50% increase.

I agree with that, but I don't agree that 3dB is the smallest discernible difference. You can discern much smaller increments than that quite easily. Boost your volume by 1dB by turning your volume pot, it's pretty noticeable.

I think there is an online test, and I do recall being able to discern about 1.5 dB.

Hahaha well markbass and gk both have 800w at 4 ohms cabs. Both the little mark tube and mb fusion 500 are that versatile, maybe I just rule out the pf500 and tb500. Being very critical lol

I have a 12" with a 3012LF and horn - could use that. But if I get the SB200H I may get a Aguilar SL112. 1.5 lb amp with 25 lb cab. Hooray! Amazing! Wish Traynor still made their 112neo. I have eyed their 115 neos as well and may eventually get a couple.
I have a power amp/pre and a 15 cab to add for larger stuff.

Loudness is the perception of sound power. Sound power is multifaceted; various aspects and expressions of sound power (SPL, frequency, duration, etc.) impact its perception and perception of changes in it. These discussions seem to mix up several of the concepts involved.

If you step away from watts, it's pretty easy to see this one.

Instead of watts (which become pretty nebulous in these discussions), consider one unit of sound power as one person humming (1 hum). The sound of 20 people humming (20 hums) is double the sound power of 10 hums, so about a 3dB increase. If you added units of power to the first 10, one at a time, it wouldn't take the addition of 10 people before the average person could tell that the sound was louder.

oh ya gotta do this , Orange head with Markbass cabs, the orange + the yellow speakers, and the band name: Citric Acid!!!!!
I love the sound of Markbass cabs

G-K MB Fusion 500 is my go-to at the moment. Versatile tone, lightweight but sturdy, 2 channels, plays very loud for rated power.

Oh hang on, didn't realise the shuttlemax 6.2 was 600w at 4ohms! I think the focus lt 410 is 600w at 8 ohms. Would you stack 210ts or have a 210 and a 12t extension cab? Would that be easier to move about than a light weight 4x10?

Sorry if this is a naive question; as most of you probably know I've been umming and ahhing about several pedals over the last few months (ultimately haven't had the money to act upon), one of which is the vt bass pedal - most of the amps I'm looking at (mark bass, gk & genz benz) have tube preamps, would the sound produced by the tube make the vt bass redundant, or is there a variety of sounds in amps with tube preamps/all valve amps?

The only amp that makes a VT bass redundant is the Tech 21 VT bass1969. A tube does not equal "tube sound" which for that matter is not a all encompassing term. Most of the tube preamps you are referring to sound vastly different from each other and it's due to circuit design.

No, the VT wouldn't be redundant in those setups, especially if you like heavier distortion that what you're getting with the preamp tube. For clean sounds, maybe, but you may like what it does for clean tones as it has a nifty EQ section and a highs rolloff that simulates a cab with no tweeter. And you can always shut it off if you don't like it. But I use all-tube amps a lot of the time and a VT Deluxe and I don't find it redundant.
