Amp help!

The simple answer is stick with your current rig if you like it, imho. After running the gambit with effects, still come back to a just a couple pedals, not a fan of modeling amps/units thus far. Will likely stick with my Bergantino HDN210 and 112 stack forever, combined with my GK Fusion 500 or Markbass Tube 800. It's the first time I have kept the same rig for over 3 years, the GAS has stopped:). Same after landing my Stingray 5 Classic that only weighs 9.4 pounds. It's all bliss now, the endless search for bass tone has ceased, I have found my music nirvana:)

I for one like that the global chip shortage is being delt with in a logical fashion. First comes digital gear, then frivolous things like cars, desktops and laptops... who really needs those. Wasn't surprised at all to see a mini stack of Katanas and Boss Streets at GC today. My vote is for a PF500 and your preferred PF cab.

I own a Roland Bass Cube 100 with one 12", probably a pre of the Kartana. It sounds well, a lot of different (digital) sounds, and it's loud, but no way, it doesn't fit to any gig with some electric guitarists. And I only use one or two different sounds, not more.
I guess it will be the same with the Kartana, 165W is only a very little bit more than 100W, no headroom, but a little more speaker area than a 12", like a 15".

If you need clean Bass sounds, you need power, more than 300-400W depending to the technic, Valves, Solid State or Digital.

This has not too much to do with loudness, but the quality of sound (to me).

There's a speaker output on the back and I presumed that was for an additional cab, but I finally found a copy of the owner's manual and it's not. They do the same stupid thing that Eden does with their E-series combos. If you hook up another cab, it disconnects the internal speakers. So the only way to get more volume out of it would be to plug in a 4Ω, 410 cab there. So, they are sort of correct. It won't run two at once, but you can plug a different cab in for it to use. A 410 cab would get you an additional 3db SPL.

I share your opinion on it. This is less, not more, and unless the OP really wants the modeling or effects, this would not be a good way to go. It has lots of cool stuff for guitar, but doesn't look like its got much for bass really. What he already has should be significantly louder than this Boss Katana 210.

The last person I'd take bass gear advice from is a guitarist.

If you want to "perk up" your rig look for an amp upgrade. Maybe one of the Rootmaster amps? I use Aguilar. I'm very happy to recommend those amps.

i play amps, basses, guitars because i like them. if the tone and features work for me, i just smile politely and nod when people recommend things that they like. if they push, i tell them that i like what i'm playing. in the case of the katana, it's less than half the watts of what you play, so unless you always play super quietly or through a P.A. all the time, you could politely tell them it's not enough for your needs.

Thanks very much- I think any less than I already have would struggle, particularly when we play weddings

Like I said in an earlier post If you could get by with a 210 combo the Katana 210 would serve you well.But there is only so much you are going to get out of a pair of 10s whether you give them 160 watts class ab or 500 watts class d or tubes.Take away your 115 and play with just a 210 cab and see if it is enough.If it is then aside the 115 and play on.If not then stay with your current setup.I also dont think you have much to gain by changing heads since what you are using now is a decent amp.

I'm a Stingray Classic 5 guy through and through, with the 2 band preamp (not 3 band). Minus Fodera and a couple other one-off boutique brands, have owned what seems like every bass out there, but keep coming back to the Ray. Perfect fit in my hands and love the sound.

That’s none of their business if they aren’t helping you move gear, or if there’s space issues in the first place. You didn’t call shots on what they use, did you? What’s the overall context? Transportation, venue size, volume, their amps, drum kit, etc
