Amp help!

Hi all
I'm currently using 2x Ashdown amps (RM210 & RM115) with a TC Electronic 450 classic head, which I've been using for 5/6 years. A couple of my guitarist friends keep banging on about me getting the new Boss Katana 160w bass combi....but what bass player would believe and trust a guitarist!
Please give me your thoughts, any help would be much appreciated!

Many thanks
Danny

Performance-wise, it would be a significant step backward to replace your rig with a Katana, IMO -- less power and less speaker area. Unless you're infatuated with the effects and modeling (like a guitarist might be), there isn't much point in getting a Katana. OTOH, there have been a few threads here lately and there are TB folks who are quite happy with their Katanas; if you do a search on Katana, you can find a wide variety of opinions expressed.

Thanks- It's also the size of my rig for transporting

Well that's a different issue than just being ragged on by your guitar buddies. :D

I haven't actually played one, but if I were looking to reduce the size of my rig, I would consider a Rocketbass 210. Again, there just doesn't seem to be much point in the Katana unless one really wants to play with the modeling.

Would a combo be a step up from a 450W head w/ 1x15 and 2x10s? Me thinks not.

I agree. If downsizing is the goal because your amp needs are modest, I could understand a transition although taking the TC head and one 2x10" cab isn't much more of a schlep than the proposed combo and you retain flexibility in the event you need to bring the 1x15" as well.
