Gaolee
Official leathers tester and crash dummy
Great point Gaolee. Bass players in my area used either one of those two brands back in the early 70s. I actually went with the Ampeg over the Acoustic but it was pretty much an even split among the local club bassists.
And you still see both off and on. The difference is that there are a whole lot more new Ampeg stacks than new 360 stacks. The new ones are both very similar to the originals, so setting aside any trolling of JimmyM just for fun, I don't think you can go wrong with either one if you like how they sound and have a forklift. I still drag the 1968 Acoustic 360 stack out to play on occasion, just for the exercise, really. Turning it up still isn't a good idea if you don't want to clear the room by being too loud. It is great for playing outside, as long as it isn't raining. It actually survived a heavy fog that may as well have been rain at one point in the last few years. It's a miracle nobody got fried when the fog rolled in. All of a sudden, you couldn't see from one end of the stage to the other. The point is that a nearly 50 year old 360 is still perfectly capable of doing what it should do. The guy I got it from did a little work on it, and I have had it and used it fairly sparingly for the last five years or so, and it has needed no attention except plugging it in and adjusting the volume.
