Amp makes fuzzy noise when i turn bass boost on

My amp out of no where started making a fuzzy/farty sound when i turned the bass boost on my schecter stilletto extreme up full. I have a red sub 500w head and a 500w 4x10 cab with it, about 4 months old.

I almost always play with the bass boost up full, the only reason i changed it is because i noticed it was up full at the time. It only makes the fuzzy sound when i play a note, its isnt any background noise from what i know. When i turn the bass boost off the bass sounds fine and there is no fuzzy sound.

Don't boost the bass is the simple answer. It just ends up sounding like mud. With your bass boosted you run out of headroom at a much earlier point.

Its never done this before, it just randomly started half way through a song as if something has broken.

You may have started to damage your speakers with excessive bass boost. Cabs are not power rated at low (bass boosted) frequencies.

Active pickups? Not likely the issue from what you describe, but try a new battery.

Personally id never be able to play with the bass boost dimed though.. cant imagine its a great sound..imo..etc..

This would be my first suggestion if you have active EQ in your bass. If that is not it then turn the bass down. Roll off treble and mids before boosting the bass.

Sounds like the bass boost control may be oxidizing and need a squirt of electrical contact cleaner

Changed the battery, seems like its the amp because when i turn the settings down it seems to do it when the output reaches a certain level.

I'm guessing speaker damage from all that bass boosting. That's where I'd look first. Can you borrow a different speaker to try with it?

If your amp is sitting on the cab try putting it on the floor. If there is a loose or dirty connector or ribbon cable in the amp bass boost will cause more cab vibration and coupling to the amp exacerbating the problem. Easy to try.

After all why the hell would anyone want to crank up the bass boost? I mean, like it's been mentioned above - the best technique for EQing is cutting, not boosting.

I agree with Will and Mr B that you have damaged your drivers and they'll need to be replaced or re-coned. Bass boost has to be used with care, (was going to say judiciously but couldn't spell it.)

Sometimes bass boost sounds awesome. Like if I dime the bass response on my B-15 and play a Precision, best 60's funk sound ever. I've taken to boosting bass on my amps at least a little these days because of it. Sure, you can take it too far sometimes, but no reason to be a-skeered of it.
