Amp or Stack for Church?

I wouldn't scoff at Peavey either--lots of bang for your buck. I like my Firebass (and I'm putting the full 700 into 2 ohms!) but I LOVED my Nitrobass--it had an okay tone, but it was indestructible and whisper quiet.

But hey, you like what you like. I liked my GK 700 RB, but it conked out on stage (just the fuse, but you can't change it without opening it up).

IN theory this works.. the issue is many sanctuaries are not conducive to bass.

IT's close to impossible to know what we really sound like from a cord's length distance.

How exactly do we control volume.. looking to learn details.

Tim

I don't know about that, most large sanctuaries have a reverb sound to them and when I play in those I try to do a sound check with my rig, If I can't I found if I can hear myself then other out in the pews can hear me. Second If someone say they couldn't hear me in the back I turn up just a little and the most important I watch people faces. If the music to loud they will be rubbing they ears believe me.

Chiming in on the Bose L1. I'm a Bassist & Sound Man. I use the L1 in many circumstances. It takes careful know how with the set up for bass when using with the Bose Tone Match. I know I have our system optimised & saved for Bass to the best possbile advantage, but in a church setting - it clouds the vocals even at low volume. I use the MarkBass MiniMark, it's brilliant, even thumpy at low volume if you want. In any religous setting - the lyrics are the most important. Bass has to be played as a backline pad, just filling the range that's missing. Don't DI to the Bose, even if they let you. I would advise looking for a 2nd hand MiniMark or Phil Jones Brief Case. You won't look back. You will be highly respected as a true professional for your consideration to the rest of the group. You have to borrow a wireless system and go walkabout on soundcheck as a one off to hear for yourself. It takes a lot of thump to damage an L1. Let me know what damage was done ? if any.... It may be just reacting to poor set up.
Q.) Are they using Tone Match Modules or an unpowered desk ?

Sorry but it's much easier to simply dismiss gear rather than learn how to use it.

I suggest you read my post again. You’re totally missing the point here bud. I understand the Bose L1 system better than most on here. I have studied every parameter of it for every instrument & vocal range possible. (IMO) In a church setting, the bassist should be kept separate. Also he needs a lightweight combo or stack & I have given two good suggestions which are perfectly achievable on the second hand market within his budget.

I'm using my regular stack for my church, the pa doesn't handle low B very well, even with subs. We're relatively young, loud group, no bluehairs in the pews, and more P&W urban gospel rather than traditional hymns also.

2 EA VL210's and 1500 watts to drive them. Of course, I'm not anywhere near full volume, need to be quiet enough so I can hear the keys/guitar...

I could read your post again but I won't bother... I agreed with you upon the first read and I doubt that would change.

Hint: you weren't dismissing gear, you were talking about getting to know it. So I wasn't talking about you.
