Amp pairing with Bergantino

I have an older NV610, one thing you need to know they like a lotta power, to get them to open up, at least that's my feeling about them, I've used the NV610 with a lotta SS amps and tube amps, but in the same breath I have used smaller amps also and have gotten good tone out of them also, you really need to spend time with the EQ of the amp your using, and also under stand the relationship, between the gain control & master volume, many times I set the master really high and use the gain as my volume, but on some amps, it just the opposite, cause pushing the preamp section into overload/saturation doesn't sound good, some amps sound good on the edge of preamp overload, some don't, like I said, spend time learning the EQ of the amp.also pay attention to the low to mid frequencies, as that's where the magic happens on that cab ... IMHO

Can you play at practice volumes with that head and still get that great tone or does it need to be opened up to band level volumes to achieve the classic SVT tone? I know the NV610 definitely sounds "better" at louder volumes but I can still get great tone with my Forte HP at practice level volumes at home. Really I would be using it for gigging but I'm curious if I can get home use out of an SVT or if it would just be a sit around until we play out kind of investment.

I'm sorry that's not a particularly helpful post regarding your question, as I never use the SVT for solo home practice. Home practice is covered by this, which is admittedly still overkill, albeit on a smaller scale.

I’m using smaller Berg cabs at the moment. Always wanted an NV610 to play with my Super Bassman 300. It sounds awesome in my head.

Thanks for that info. I like overkill for home use too main reason I ask is I'm selling all my small cabs and will just have the NV610T and an HT322 (which I am back and forth on which one I like more) The HT322 needs to be turned up quite a bit to open up so I usually leave that at my practice spot which makes the NV610 the only cab I'll have at home since it can be played at lower volumes and still sound pretty awesome. Anyway I don't want to high jack the thread so I'll leave it at that.

I suspect any good amp is going to pair well with a Berg, and that poor results would relate more to the amp than the cab.

I might add, Been using a Subway 800+, it does sound really good with a Berg NV610, just take the time to understand how the EQ works, I really like the 2 mid-range bands of adjustment, along with the HPF & Voicing controls

I actually just asked for the little $50 vox headphone amp for christmas. I looked at this but I didnt think I needed overkill for it and also want it to actually go in a pocket (battery).

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone. So if I was going down the SVT path, which would I look at outside of the 50th? I just dont think I want to gig with something that expensive tbh.

And to clarify, the forte hp is a solid state amp correct? I wish I understood the mechanics of amps more.

Yes, the HP is solid state and you would prefer carrying it vs an SVT in about 2 seconds It's 6.5 lbs of badassery!!!

Cool! Well I am already lugging a 6x10 so whats another 70 haha! No but is the forte a better sound than the B|Amp or is it that the BAMP is just complicated with all the menus?

I just looked into the Traynor YBA3 and how did I not know about this?? It seems like a really nice clean sound.

I toyed with a B|Amp at a store and in a couple minutes I had it down. I think people make a little too much of the menus. That said, the Forte HP is very powerful and popular. Lots of headroom. Has the main features of the B|Amp all in front panel controls.

The B|Amp gives you presets more control over compression and drive as well as frequency choices and "Q" as well as a tuner. You also get presets that save different eq and comp settings for different basses for example.

Depends on your needs. Can't go wrong with either amp. That said, I like Genzler products as well. The Mesa is no slouch. I am liking tubes lately (REDDI) but I don't know if I want to haul and service a tube amp.

I actually think I really am biased in wanting to try a big boy tube amp. I really (for now, que a classified listing) dont think I would mind one more 70 lb piece. We finally got some college kids to help us set up so I typically have less to carry these days. I do still play some smaller rooms and so I worry that some places I wouldnt get the sound I want out of a big 300 watt tube amp. I know its hard to have a one size fits all. My shuttle has been almost perfect, but I think we have grown apart in recent years. With the new Berg lady around it really pushed things over the edge. Looking to file paperwork after the holidays as to not shake things up to much.
